Mission Statement Despite US
Administration predictions of swift, surgical victory, the invasion and
open-ended occupation of Iraq has lasted more than six years. It has
claimed the lives of 4500 Americans, sent another 30,000 home wounded,
destabilized the families of hundreds of thousands and will ultimately
cost the nation three trillion dollars. The toll on Iraqis and their
devastated country has been immeasurable.
“Aftershock” is a retrospective of the war’s major events and the lasting consequences of the conflict for veterans and families. Our goal in making this film is to connect the 98% of Americans who were left untouched by these events to the pain, anguish and heartbreak associated with the reality of going to war. “Aftershock” reminds us of the price that ordinary people pay when the powerful send the less powerful into the line of fire. Participants include war veterans, military families, veteran’s advocates, a noted war correspondent, an award-winning author and the author of an acclaimed book about combat veterans struggling to re-adjust to “the world”. |
