"Ceiling Recycling"
Armstrong World Industries began its pioneer ceilings recycling program in 1999. Since then, through its manufacturing facilities across the US, its kept 35,000 tons of construction waste out of landfills and converted 65,000,000 square feet of old material into new ceilings.  The program has expanded rapidly in recent years as “green” building and sustainable design have grown in popularity. It offers architects and owners an environmentally friendly way to dispose of construction waste, make a smaller carbon footprint, and earn LEED credits in the process.

“Ten years ago all construction waste went to landfills. Nowadays it’s possible to keep 90% out of the landfills; it’s a matter of knowing who gets what pieces and where they should go… The whole process of recycling materials has become an everyday activity.”
Daniel Harazim-Architect: The S-L-A-M Collaboratie, Glastonbury, CT

“Now, because designers understand what being ‘green’ and being sustainable is, contractors understand it, too. It’s come to the forefront rather than being pushed to the back.”
Anthony Brower- Architect: Gensler Associates, New York, NY

“We brought this process into our program in 2002 and have recycled about three million square feet of ceiling tile since then. It’s something we require our general contractors to do and we truly believe in the program.”
Mike Eason- Construction Manager: Food Lion, Salisbury, NC

“A couple years ago we took over two buildings… it was about 300,000 square feet… and we recycled all the ceiling product in those buildings. Armstrong was right there to recycle the waste and provide us with new product for the remodeled buildings. It was a win-win for everybody.”
